Time Management - How Do You Do It????

My daughters (9 & 7) are home for the summer. While they were in school, I was at home with my 20m old son. I had a routine everyday:
- drop girls off to school
- take morning walk w/son.
- come home get breakfast.
- check emails.
- set Barney up for son, hopefully he took his nap thereafter :)
- do my job search
- get lunch/dinner together
- pick up girls from school
- homework, dinner, bed
In between there were moments where I may run errands, get interrupted by my son (of course), read blogs (need to cutback on that :), etc. Let's not forget that I have to research for my dream business, make products every once in while. While still looking for a job outside the home.

But now that I have to look after all 3 kids, that routine is no longer doable. Multitasking is one thing, but making valuable use of your time is something entirely different. Keeping them entertained while I get things done is always my main concern.

So this post is for all my Mommies out there who have that side business while taking care of business at home. I am with you in the struggle and while it may seem hard, I would not change a thing.

So tell me what great suggestions would you give someone who is trying to make better use of their time? You could be married w/children, single w/kids or pets :) or otherwise. All comments are welcomed.

I like to break my big goals down into what’s called ‘the rule of five’. This means, you break your big goals down into five easy things that you can do everyday. While those things are small, and you simply do five of them each day, over time, they move you closer to the goal, without seeming so overwhelming.

schedule, schedule, schedule. it's the only thing that works for me. that way they know when library day is, when the chores need to be done, when we can go for a bike ride....and importantly, when mommy needs to work!!

hang in there...you can do this!

@am & thebeadgirl - love love love the suggestions. Sometimes I forget and have to reminded of what works in my life and what does not. I will definitely take some time this weekend (while relaxing of course) and implement your suggestions.

Any other suggestions ?

@carrie- I hung up my Superwomen cape and stopped multitasking. Multitasking for me means I have more than when I started. :)

Thank God today was better than last week.

Thanks for the compliment on the blog name. I thought long and hard on that one. :)

I don't have kids but I am the last person to give time-management advice. There just isn't enough time no matter what.

I'm in your neck of the woods. If you're not too busy, we should meet=)

A to do list works best for me. I have five things that I want to accomplish for two hours, or whatever my time frame and I tick them off as I complete them.
